Knowledge of the Market

When I started my internship, I was excited to see what I could learn about the senior home care market. It was an area I had no experience in or knowledge of, and I’m always excited to learn new things. Over the course of the internship, I feel that I’ve learned more than I thought I would. Meeting this outcome was tricky, since I didn’t have much direct contact with our clients. To truly understand what the market is like, I listened when talking to my supervisors and coworkers, and tried to see and hear through their eyes. I was seeking an understanding through their actions and experiences. Through this, I was able to construct a helpful Newsletter for our company, one that clients and employees would receive and read. The response to this Newsletter was extraordinary, so much so that before I’m done they’re asking me to do next month’s! In addition, I worked on a project where I interviewed our caregivers and got their stories and experiences. This was also a great way to see what our clients wanted, and how our caregivers were giving it to them.

The senior care market is teeming with possibility and there is room for growth and innovation. With the senior demographic set to explode before the year 2060, the time is now for companies and entrepreneurs to start catering to their needs. But, through my time at Care Partners at Home, I’ve seen that what the clients we serve want is a genuine sense of connection, love and companionship during their later years. This was surprising to me, not because I thought seniors were calloused or mean, but because I just didn’t know that’s what they wanted. Overall, I was satisfied with what I learned. It was a topic that I had never considered interesting, and I was able to get a deeper understanding of the clients and the market as a whole.

Here is the Newsletter I made for the company: July’s Newsletter
