The second learning outcome I wanted to achieve was to learn and apply the company’s values to the work I did over the course of my internship. Care Partners at Home thrives on its core values of Love, Compassion and Empathy. I didn’t know how I would achieve this outcome, since most of my work was behind the scenes. One example that I can think of would be a caregiver testimonial that I wrote about one of our partners of the month. She was so easy to hold a conversation with, and made it easy to empathize with her situation and history. Below, I have the link to that document. Overall, I wasn’t to satisfied with this outcome, because the length of time and my duties at Care Partners didn’t really give me an opportunity to exemplify these traits. I’m sure that my superiors would say that I have, but not in a way that provides me with any other evidence. What did surprise me though was my coworkers’ devotion to these ideals. Every interaction, no matter the topic, felt full of compassion and empathy. Even if I didn’t do something correctly, or up to par, they would tell me AND show me ways to improve. It was really refreshing as opposed to working retail where you’re almost punished for anything.
