Summing Up

Value of the Internship

The Most Rewarding Aspect

There wasn’t just one rewarding aspect, there were a couple. The first rewarding thing was the connections I made. What I mean by this is that the CEO and COO, as well as the other members of the office team, have all made themselves contacts on LinkedIn, as well as their willingness to write me letters of recommendation and more. This was what I was most excited for, because I’ve heard that the CEO and COO have A LOT of connections between them in the healthcare field, and they want to help me succeed! Another rewarding aspect of the internship was experience with new programs like Virtual Office and Microsoft Publisher. Through Publisher, I was able to create a company Newsletter that will be regular throughout the rest of the year. In Virtual Office, I was able to fax Long Term Care Insurance forms to the insurance companies responsible for the clients I was reviewing, one such form is linked below. The last rewarding aspect of the internship was that it was my first internship, my first professional step into the business world and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. When my internship was over, they all got together in the entry area to say goodbye and thank me for all the work I had done.

The Most Challenging Aspect

Besides waking up and going to work (Relax I’m kidding), the most challenging aspect of this internship was writing the Caregiver Spotlight for one of our caregivers Norma. It wasn’t difficult because I didn’t know what to say or had trouble writing the content, it was because so many other projects came up that the spotlight got pushed to the back. In addition to the spotlight, I was also working on social media, LTC notes, the newsletter and other assignments as they made themselves known. It wasn’t until my last day that I was able to actually post the spotlight to our website. It was challenging because I haven’t had to multitask like that for a while, and while it was certainly challenging, it also gave me valuable experience that I will be able to use in my career.

Mentor Feedback

My mentor’s feedback led to advancements in completing the spotlight on our website, and our posts on social media. The feedback gave me a clear and defined idea on how to craft the content I was creating into a meaningful set of posts that help define the company’s image.

Affecting my Plans

I wouldn’t say this internship changed my plans for a career, but it opened up my eyes to a growing and soon to thrive market that teems with possibilities. As I’ve shown earlier, the market will explode by 2060, so having people experienced with marketing this kind of service will be vitally important.

Here’s an article discussing the market’s growth:

What Surprised Me

As weird as it sounds, I don’t think I learned anything that surprised me. A lot of what I learned was based on things I already knew from dealing with older family members and such, so nothing really jumped out to me. In a way, I kind of knew what I was getting into.
